The Pilon Gallery was established in Ajdovščina in 1973. The artist's son made the donation of all his father's work to the city of Ajdovščina after his death in 1970. Later, the gallery was enriched with many gifts and other donations.
In the collection, a rich archives fond has a place, too: documents, manuscripts, correspondence, books and personal effects of the artist. The gallery's permanent collection in its exhibition program includes paintings, drawings, statues, etchings and photographs.
One of the houses composing the gallery is the artist's native house, where his father's bakery used to operate. Both facades are separated and preserved with all details, as well as the interior of the artist's native house.
Author of the restoration works on the gallery is Svetozar Križaj (1921-1996) architect from Ajdovščina, for his work on the gallery awarded with the Plečnik prize in 1976.
